Our family ventured out to California in early April for our girls’ spring break from school and to visit some family members. After leaving Los Angeles, we worked our way up the coast to spend a couple of nights in Santa Barbara. Even though most of my time was spent hanging out with my wife and daughters I did break away for a few hours a couple of different times to capture some of California’s beauty.
One of those times was a late afternoon and sunset in Santa Barbara. The obvious candidate there to photograph is the Old Mission. And, I wasn’t disappointed. The late afternoon light was beautiful and recent rains had left everything a bit greener than I would have expected given the current long-term drought. I feel that this image captures the setting of the mission pretty well. The surrounding mountains, palm trees, and cross all set in a garden like setting makes for a beautiful image. I hope this shot conveys a bit of the sense of the splendor of the location. Enjoy.
